| Notes | Covers from Kitty Vitty Harbour to the end of the harbour and from above the Kitty Vitty to the South Side Hills. Relief shown by hachures and shading. Some soundings indicated (in feet?). Shows buildings in red, streets, property outlines, roads, fortifications, rivers, ponds. Has a list of references keyed to the map by letter including Fort William, Lower Fort, Flakes for drying of Fish on, Stages for heading & Splitting the Fish, and Wharfs. Has the red Board of Ordnance stamp. There is a fleur-de-lis north arrow. Has a statement in a different hand that was "Received with Mr. Bramham's letter from St. Johns dated 1 Octr. 1750." The surveyed by note is torn off after 175. There is a bar scale in feet. In the lower left is No. 47. There is also some writing with elevations. On verso is WO78/1879 (1) and Board of Ordnance stamp, plus X 15/6 and Newfoundland - Town, harbour and Environs of St. John. JBramham 1st Oct. 1750. Names The hospital, Navy Brewhouse, Navy Wharf, Storehouse & Magazine, Landing Place, 6 Gun Battery, 4 Gun Battery, The look out (with a flag pole), Kitty Vitty Harbour, Water Fall, Kitty Vitty Pond, Platform (near Rennie's River and next to what is now King's Bridge Road), Georges Pond, Chain Rock, Crows nest Cove, Maggotty Cove, Kings Wharf. Turquoise color at the ocean and harbour edges and blue on the ponds and rivers. Penfold 946. Repaired, as well as being mounted on linen. Removed from WO 78/1879/(1). |
