Notes | Facsimile. In lower left below map: On this map, present Greenland is designated "Terra Laboratoris." In 1502, and for many years after, the strait of Belleisle was taken for a bay. On this map, Newfoundland and present Labrador are assumed to be a continuous land-mass which is designated "Terra Cortereal." In lower right below map: PHOTOGRAPHED FROM THE ORIGINAL IN THE LIBRARY OF DR. E. T. HAMY, PARIS. (REPRODUCED FROM NORDENSKIOLD'S PERIPLUS). Nearly all lettering is in all caps on the map. Has numerous compass roses and rhumb lines. In addition to the noted "islands" one name is shown at the bottom of "TERRA CORTEREAL" and this is "capo razo". Areas in the Caribbean are depicted, such as "DECUBA"and what appears to be the north coast of South America. There is a latitude indicator. In several places, top left and top right, PANL copy has 3a, 3 or 3A in pencil. |
