Cornelius Francis Maher was born on March 7th, 1934 and grew up in the Battery. He spent most of his working life as manager and barkeep at the old Harbour Inn in downtown St. John's. Was part of several groups including the Quidi Vidi Minstrels and the Newfoundland Kitchen Band. Has toured with The Plankerdown Band and Figgy Duff. In 2002, Maher received the tradition bearer award from the Celtic Roots Festival in Goderich, Ont. and the 2003 St. John's Folk Arts Council lifetime achievement award.
