Author | Barr, Elinor |
Notes | Bibliography, No index, No TofC. Illus: B&W photographs, documents. Gives both the history of this extraordinary log house on the shore of White Otter Lake in Ontario, and of Jimmy McQuat, the original builder, ca. 1914. The house itself was constructed of large hewn logs on three sides, with a gambrel roof and a forty-foot high tower. The three-storey house had a verandah on the front, and a side lean-to addition. See "The Hermit of White Otter Lake", by George Wice for more information. See especially "Architectural Report: Jim McQuat's Castle, White Otter Lake", by Denis Mahon (Ontario Ministry of Culture and Recreation). |
